Have your say

Your local council and health organisation are currently asking different people what it’s like to be a carer, so that they can work to better support Carers in the future. Please could you complete this short questionnaire, so that we can include all your thoughts on how it feels to be a carer and what can be done to make things better? Thank you.

Our Priorities

Q4 Please read the sections below and mark with a tick how much you agree.
Strongly Agree   Agree   Neither   Disagree   Strongly Disagree   Don't know
YCs /YACs should realise they are a carer and people should value the care they give. Carers should be asked what help they need.

YCs/YACs should be helped to do their best at school and at work.

YCs/YACs should be able to spend time with their families and friends & have help to make plans for the future and have someone they can ask for help.

YCs/YACs should be helped so that they can stay healthy & happy.

What we need to do

Q5 How important do you think it is for us to do these things? Please tick how much you agree.
Strongly Agree   Agree   Neither   Disagree   Strongly Disagree   Don't know
Find as many YCs /YACs as possible.

Understand fully the issues YC/YACs have and what their needs are when creating services.

Make sure carers’ voices are heard so things can be made better for them.

Make sure YCs/YACs have a say in this ‘Carers report’ and are able to make decisions about the future.

Listen and act on what YCs/YACs tell us they need.
Q6 Supporting carers to do their best at school and at work. Please tick how much you agree.
Strongly Agree   Agree   Neither   Disagree   Strongly Disagree   Don't know
We need to create an assessment for YCs so we know what they need and make sure they only care when it’s appropriate to do so.

We need to continue to understand what young adult carers need.

For YC/YACs that go to work, we need to continue to support the Carers in Paid Employment project, to help carers stay in work.
Q7 Carers should be able to spend time with their families and friends, be able to make plans for the future, and have someone they can ask for help and advice. Please tick how much you agree.
Strongly Agree   Agree   Neither   Disagree   Strongly Disagree   Don't know
Make YCs/YACs aware of support that is offered and how to get it.

We need to make sure YCs/YACs have the information and support they need.

We need to make sure YCs/YACs are recognised, supported and have access to all available opportunities. This could be from places such as libraries etc.

We need to make sure support is equal, appropriate and personal for each carer.

We need to work on how best to support carers of disabled children and support young people.

We need to make sure YCs/YACs are able to have a break from caring, and recognise they are their own person with their own needs.

We need to find out if there are enough short breaks available and it is what people want.

We need to find out how emergency support for carers is working and if anything needs to be improved.
Q8 Carers should be helped so that they can stay healthy & happy. Please tick how much you agree.
Strongly Agree   Agree   Neither   Disagree   Strongly Disagree   Don't know
We need to work with schools, and colleges etc. to build a network of support groups for YCs/YACs.

We need to make sure YCs/YACs get their health checks, and ask for health checks for all carers, whatever their age.

We need to find ways YCs/YACs can meet people and not feel alone.
